Last year’s Oscar-nominated documentary “The Rescue,” from “Free Solo” directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, already did an admirable job laying out the nuts and bolts of the recovery operation, introducing us to the peculiar personalities of British cave divers Richard Stanton and John Volanthen, whose odd hobby made these creaky-looking, middle-aged eccentrics more qualified for the mission than a strapping SEAL team half their age. The story is a natural fit for the movies, which is why we’re sorting through a deluge of them at the moment, with not one, but two dramatizations of the event coming to your home screens this weekend. An extraordinary rescue mission brought thousands of volunteers from around the world in the kind of concerted, humanitarian effort that comes along every once in a while to remind you how - despite daily evidence to the contrary - people are still capable of pulling together and doing great things sometimes. Thailand’s monsoon season arrived a month ahead of schedule, and unless you were living underground yourself in the summer of 2018, you’re sure to have heard all about the 12 young soccer players and their coach who spent 18 days trapped in the flooded caverns of the Tham Luang cave system. Though the song means something different for everybody, that night that song meant the world to me.
The song talks about feeling paralyzed but to keep remembering to get up and push forward. Even though I knew I was not alone in my pain because there were so many people that loved and missed my dear friend, I felt as if this song was telling me, “you will be ok Chris”. When I started hearing him sing the lyrics I got goosebumps and emotional. The first time I heard this particular song was when they performed it live. I had listened to their music before but there was one particular song I was not familiar with at the time. During this time we were approved to cover one of Shinedowns tour stops in NC. To make myself keep moving forward I kept covering shows for our publication. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward.
The only thing I knew or understood that I had to do was to keep moving forward.

As I tried to find a way to deal with the crazy batch of emotions that kept exploding in my head as well as my heart, I was also trying to learn how to except the new reality of her being gone. I felt complete anger and helplessness as I tried to come to terms with what had happened. I lost a dear friend of mine to domestic violence a few years ago and I had a hard time dealing with this loss then and still do today. I do want to mention a side note in regards to this bands music.
